Message from Our CEO
Greetings, Jamaica! My name is Junior Chin, and I am the CEO and founder of Jamaica Drivers Education Forum (JDEF). I am honoured to welcome you to the JDEF family and sincerely thank you for choosing us as your professional training partners. It’s my pleasure to wish you success in your training journey with us. I hope this experience proves to be both memorable and transformative. I am confident that by completing our program, you will not only enhance your driving skills but also become one of the best-trained defensive drivers in Jamaica.
At JDEF, our goal is to create a platform where current and prospective drivers, as well as all road users in Jamaica, can become better informed about the laws, regulations, and best practices for safe vehicle operation. We aim to provide you with the most up-to-date defensive driving techniques that are practiced by professionals both locally and internationally.
I firmly believe that Jamaica can embrace a comprehensive guide for safe road use, leading to positive reforms that will benefit the country. Achieving this vision requires that all Jamaicans learn, practice, and adhere to the rules and regulations for safe road usage. It is a collective effort, and we must all commit to this cause for the greater good of our nation.
The Spark of Inspiration
The idea for Jamaica Drivers Education Forum was born during a trip I took to Toronto, Canada, several years ago. At the time, I had been a licensed driver in Jamaica for over seven years. Yet, I chose to enroll in a beginner’s driver education course to familiarize myself with the rules governing Canadian roads. What I didn’t expect was to be exposed to an abundance of valuable knowledge and skills, even after all my years of experience driving in Jamaica. I was also impressed by the seamless structure and accessibility of the Canadian driver education system.
That moment was a turning point for me – my “Aha” moment. I realized that Jamaica could greatly benefit from a similar internationally accredited Driver Training Program, one that would teach Jamaicans to drive according to global standards, with a special focus on defensive driving for both beginner and advanced drivers.
Canadian Training and Certification
A few years later, my vision became a reality. I had the opportunity to study at Humber College’s School of Transportation in Toronto, where I trained with Canadian Pro-Drivers, a recognized driving instructor training body. I became a certified Driving Instructor and earned additional certification in Risk Management for instructors.
Further expanding my expertise, I completed a rigorous, thirty-day Commercial Driver Training course with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), the third-largest transit operator in North America. I worked with the TTC for four years as a Transit Operator.
With the knowledge, skills, and experiences I gained abroad, I made the decision to create a local driver training program for Jamaica. My goal is to enhance the skills of drivers in our local industry while transforming the driver training space and improving the transportation sector as a whole.
A Gift to Jamaica
This is my gift to Jamaica – The Jamaica Drivers Education Forum. My team and I are committed to preparing you for a safe and successful future on Jamaican roads with our comprehensive Driver Training Modules.
Welcome to the New Method family!
